That's right, the rate of revelation is essential, though it's not everything. I mean, there's still value in longer sentences and even descriptive sentences.

Readers will stay without knowing why when we nail a certain rhythm within the story.

To me, the key is in alternating short and long sentences.

Longer sentences kind of drag the readers through action, whereas the short ones stop them in the way and feed them with essential information.
