I read the other day that a mother chose to tell her children Santa can't buy all the gifts by himself and parents are making donations :D
So, depending on how much the parents afford to donate and how much Santa can contribute, some children get more (or more expensive) gifts, while other children... not so much.
Another mother was telling her children that Santa knows if they're really going to play with the toys they ask for, and he's choosing to offer them only the ones he knows the kids will actually use.
It's not my favorite talk, but it can certainly explain to some of the little ones why they're not getting everything they need.
I understand your girls are older now and I'm not sure if you're missing these talks :D, but perhaps the ideas will come in handy for other parents who happen to drop by :)
